Frankie's Restaurant and Pub Hanover

Frankie's Restaurant and Pub, a bit above the bar eatery.  New owners. Have been several times and do not find it consistent. Size of meal, changes.  They rave about the fish and chips, but mine was under cooked.  The prime rib was great, but not the next time I had it.  You can really tell when the cook is not there.  Lots of seating, room could use a bit of touching up. Places never think of washing down the walls and rubbing a little scratch remover in. Will never be a high end eating place. They do take suggestions. That is a Plus..

The Rockford Restaurant Rockford

The Rockford Restaurant  (Hwy 6/10 at Grey CR18 (at the lights)) 519-371-6588.  This is a new boy in town. Recommend reservations, as some days it is packed.  Food is great, lots of selections and good prices.  It is a little above the home cooking type of place.  There is a hint of Greek in the style of cooking. (just a hint) Service was great and the owner came to the table to talk.   The menu had a selection anyone could chose from. Partner had the pork medallions and I had the schnitzel. Both were good and had distinctive style to them.  This make the place above home cooking joints. Save room for desert. I had the bread pudding, yet again a new style, and it was good.

The Chaise Lounge Owen Sound

The Chaise Lounge 229 9th Street East, Owen Sound.  Good luck finding their web page. They do not keep it up to date. I have been here several times. The best food came on the day the owner (cooks) were out of town.
Lunches were the better meals.  They have a all you can eat fish and chips on Fridays. ( I would not want more) Both our orders were under cooked.  They advertise they have the best fish and chips in the area. LOL.  Not very kid friendly with there orders.  There is live entertainment some nights.  Yet again another drinking hole, old decor, and on the dark side.  Service is best at the lunch times.

Shorty's Bar and Grill Owen Sound

We have been in Owen Sound for 2 years and just got round to going tonight to Shorty's Bar and Grill. A lot of people suggested the place over the years.  Well if you want a bar. (nice place). If you want bar food (nice selection).
If you want fines food, (I did not find it).  Started with the potato skins (1/2 price appetizers at set times) they were great. I would go in for them any time.  For the meal we both went for the Halibut Fish and Chips..  Never again.  It was warmed up, not fresh. More batter than fish.  My partner thought she had salmon by the taste of it. The chips, were nothing to brag about. Lacked flavor and were not very hot.  The coleslaw was nice.
This was all server on a cold plate.  So we did not finish it because it lost it's luster as it got cold. There was a good crowd in the place. Service was great.  Never saw anyone but us eating fish and chips, they must be regulars. If I ever go again I would avoid any dishes that could be sitting around, just pick fresh things. If I was a drinker this would be my bar. Clean and good looking, with lots of staff.

Swiss Chalet Owen Sound

Swiss Chalet  beware* Last night was the worse I have ever had from them.
Meal came cold. (but fast) The chicken leg was smaller than the bun. The chicken breast was dry. The ribs lacked any sauce, but tasted OK. They were not reheated fully. The fries were cold. There is a point in time when potatoes should be tossed out, not made into french fries. The place was not busy, but you could tell the meals were sitting around because they might get busy. Poor food management. Food inspection should check this place.
The service was fine. Not outstanding.
I have told them before, that the floors in this place are a death trap in the winter. You slide around on them when wet.
I have been to other Swiss Chalet's and have never seen as many problems as the one in Owen Sound.

Harrison Park Inn Family Restaurant Owen Sound

Harrison Park Inn has been there in the center of the park like forever. The place is looking and doing good. Food will match any member of a family. Kids meals are what little ones want. They do takeout too if you want to sit in the park.  There is a little zoo, several playground sets, a fab toboggan hill and even a ice pad just outside. If you have a big group reserve.  They have a buffet on Mother's day every year that is real busy.

Ted's Range Road Dinner in Meaford

If you have family or friends visiting in the area Ted's Range Road Diner is the place to go. If you find the dinner prices a little high do the breakfast or lunch. This place you have to read the menu to better understand what a cool place it is. Reservations are a must on the weekends.  You should also reserve ribs, as they sell off fast.
Do not be afraid of the outside or even the inside looks. It is the food and atmosphere that get the people in. You will see lots of expensive cars and lots of (snowmobiles in winter) in the front lot. There is even room for a helicopter in the back, that has been used.   My only complaint is no other place I have been makes hash browns as good as his.

Treasure Bay Cafe Owen Sound

This place is talked about a lot. People like it.  Treasure Bay is at (340 10th St E) Breakfast and Lunch. I tried it for breakfast. Drinks came to the table as we sat down. Food was good and prices good. It did not stand out to me. Lots of people of older age. Service was slow, they need more help maybe. Every knows you will be there for a time, so avoid if you want to rush your food.

Wanda & Mikes Family Restaurant, Owen Sound

My  fist choice for breakfast, Wanda & Mikes  (740 9th Avenue East).  Fast, good food and the warmest personality I have ever seen. Prices are great and portions will fill you. If you see a lot of cars in the lot they are full.  (normal on Sat). They are only open for breakfast.  Most people I send here, keep going back, Wanda is such a charm..

Rocky Racoon Cafe Owen Sound

It is hard to find East Indian food in this area. I do miss it. But a good substitute is Rocky Raccoon Cafe. Recommend the lunch buffet Monday to Friday. $15 range. Food changes each day. Makes a real good Chai Tea. I would recommenced  reservations at lunch. I stopped going when they became inconsistent  for even being open during the summer for lunches. Looks like they are back on track, but call. It is a charming little place warm and clean. The walls are covered with display cases of salt and pepper shakers. There are more than you can count.

Dam Pub Thornbury

I tried the Dam Pub when there was 2 for 1 dinners on. They stopped doing that and dropped the prices a bit.
A nice place for a real touch of Scottish fare. They have a specials on most nights.  I will not say anything about the lamb shanks on special Friday nights for fear they will run out before I get there. If you are lucky there might be bread pudding. Quite different, and very good. This is a place you know what they have, and they stay to what works. They have entertainment some days so watch for it.  Only thing I would say is a whiskey sauce for the Haggis.. (they have over 550 types in stock)

Kings Buffet Owen Sound

There is snow much snow out, I am going to start catching up with the new places I have been in the last 2 years in the area.
Lets see, "Kings Buffet".  Why?  At one point they were a reasonable priced high quality (Canadian style) Chinese, establishment.  I like the prime rib every night and the crab-legs on weekends. Show me another place with all you can eat prime rib for 16-21$ area. Staff is great in the place.  Now with the management (owner), leaving, things are changing. Food quality has gone down and it was closed for the day once by the heath department.  It was just minor things, but with no proper management, has it got a future. Check out their VIP card deals, got me many a free dinners with it.  I even won a 32 inch TV on their VIP draw. Well in short, we all have good days and bad days.
